Sad News

My sister's lop-eared rabbit, affectionately dubbed "Blood-Thirsty," code-name Love, died yesterday.
-sniff-

Love, I'll miss you, and your hostile treatment of all things human. Like the way you would charge-attack our hands when we gave you treats, grunting threats all the way. Or the way you chewed a large hole in the priest's new trousers. And the way you would never groom yourself so we had to brush you for you, where upon you would never sit still, try to bite us, or make a break for it. My least favorite moments were when we had to take you out of your cage, to clean it or you. Can you say battle of wits?

Still, you were adorable. You would go to greet our doggies when we let them out, coming to the bars and sniffing hello. Our cats kept respectful distance, because you were as big and tough as them, and they and you knew it. You reminded me of Bigwig, from Watership Down. (Great book, go read it). He was one of my favorite characters.

And you were so fond of Peanut (Dwarf rabbit). I remember at first we thought you two would not get along, and kept you in separate cages. But then, when we let one run around, we would always find you two huddled up together through the bars. So we minused one cage. And you were happy. I know you felt lonely when she died a year ago.

You've been with us for six year. Love, my blood-thirsty bunny, we'll miss you.

Love and Peanut, in the bathtub together so they don't gang up on us while we clean their cage.
